Exams are over and we return back to our weekend travelling.. It was a long time we had visited a temple and hence my parents first preference was to visit a temple. After lot of discussion we planned to visit Shri Kotilingeshwara temple situated in Kolar district, not very far from namma Bengaluru.
So first things first, below are quick facts
Distance from Bangalore: Approx 70 Kms one way
Travel time: 3 hours one way
Route1: Bangalore -> Sarjapura -> Maralur -> Kolar ->Bangarpet – Shri Kotilingeshwara
Route1 Road Coditions : Good, patchy in between. Very good after Kolar
Route2: Bangalore -> Hosakote -> Kolar ->Bangarpet – Shri Kotilingeshwara
Route2 Road Conditons: Very good, NH75 is fantastic
Food options: Many on the way till Kolar on route 2.
Route 2 details:
Bangalore – Hoskote – Bangarpet/KGF – Kotilingeshwara. Around 10 Kms from KR Puram (Bangalore) is Hoskote.Keep on travelling on NH7, around 32 Kms from Hoskote, you will find a railway crossing. Take the flyover above the railway crossing and be on left. You will find a detour towards KGF . Keep on going straight and you will corss Bangarpet and you will cross BEML. You have to keep going straight .Around 4 KM after BEML , you will find the entrance to Kotilingeshwar ..
The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. The amazing thing about this temple is that it has one of the largest shiva linga in the world and as the name suggest, it is supposed to have 1 crore shiva lingas installed here. When we spoke to the priest, he mentioned that there are already around 90 Lacs installed. This is just amazing.
Do visit this place. It is very good, calm and quite place.
