Chandra Choodeswarar Temple Hosur is a very old and important temple of the region.
There is a a bit of history around this beautiful temple. Built by Thirupuvanamalla Barvatharaja Anthiyazhvar who belonged to Hoysala Dynasty, this temple is around 700 years old.
The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva who is called Shri Choodeswarar and Goddess Parvati, also called as Goddess Maragadambal.
The main temple is quite big and impressive. There is a small water body near the temple (kalyani).

The temple is not very far from Bangalore. You can take the regular Hosur road. If you start a bit early, lets say by 8.00 to 9.00 AM the you can actually reach the place well under one hour. But lets say if you leave by 9.30 Am and you find some traffic on Hosur road, you will still be able to reach with in one hour and thirty minutes. |

You probably need 30 to 45 minutes to visit the temple. But this is a very old temple. Ancient one and very important temple of the region. History of temple (source: wikipedia ) The temple has grown during the time of the Cholas, Hoysala and Vijayanagara Emperors. The Chandra Choodeshwara Temple structure may have been built by the Hoysala king, Thirupuvanamalla Barvatharaja Anthiyazhvar, in the year 1260. The 13th-century inscription found during Chandra Choodeshwara temple patronage. Perumal Temple in Hosur and Bangalore Shiva Temple inscriptions tell the details of donations to Chandra Choodeshwara temple. There are also inscriptions of Rajendra Chola in this ancient temple. The temple was renovated by Azhakiya Perumal Aathimoolam. Note that the temple closes by 1.00 PM and then reopens at 4.00 PM. |
