Chikkatirupati – An afternoon well spent – half a day trip from Bangalore
Sri Prasanna Venkataramana Swamy temple at Chikkatirupati which is a very ancient one.
So it is a very old temple and regarded very high. Visting this temple is considered same as visiting Sri Tirupati Balaji temple. You can also get the mundan done here (as it is at Sri Tirupati Balaji temple) and may find lot of rush during weekends and festivals.
Chikka means small and this temple is actually a miniature version on Tirupati Balaji temple at Sri Tirumala.
Legend behind Chikkatirupati
It is said that this place is linked to our great epic Mahabharatas Kandav Dhanakandam. It is said that once Lord Agni needed to eat herbal medicines and Arjuna suggested Lord Agni to eat the herbs from Kandava forest.
Lord Agini ate the whole forest, but when the forest was burning, the king of snakes, Takshaka, got hurt as he was trapped in the forest.
Hence he cursed Lord Agni to loose his teja. Lord Agni approached Lord Shiva for help who in turn asked him to pray to Lord Vishnu.
Lord Vishnu helped Agni to regain his tejas. Agni was greatful to Lord Vishnu and he installed the idol of Lord Vishnu here, known also has Lord Prasanna Venkataramana Swamy.

| The temple is around 45 Kms from City center. Depending upon which part of Bangalore you live , it might take 1 to 2 hours to reach the temple. One way is that from outer ring road turn towards Sarjapaur. Once you cross Sarjapur village, there will be a Y junction. Take the left one towards Hoskote. Temple is around 10 Kms from there. There is one more way to reach the temple. You can go to Hoskote and then take the detour towards Sarjapura. The temple is around 25 Kms from Hoskote. There are limited few food options near the temple so our suggestion is to have your breakfast at home or with in the city on your way to temple. In case you want to use public transport, you will find direct buses from Majestic/Srajapura/Attibille and Hoskote. |
