Exploring Devanahalli Fort : A Historical Gem - 1 day trip from Bangalore

Devanahalli Fort Bangalore is a remarkable historical site located just 35 km from the city center.

Known for its rich heritage and stunning architecture, this fort is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and travelers alike.

Built in the 16th century, Devanahalli Fort is also the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, the legendary ruler of Mysore.

This can be a nice one day trip with Family and friends

Devanahalli Fort was originally constructed in 1501 by Mallabaire Gowda, a local chieftain.
Later, it was expanded and fortified by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan in the 18th century.
The fort played a significant role during the Anglo-Mysore Wars and showcases a blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles.

Key highlights inside the fort include:
Birthplace of Tipu Sultan – A memorial marks the spot where the Tiger of Mysore was born.

Day-1/Step-1 9.00 AM to 11.00 AM Travel towards Devanhalli Fort

Depending upon where you live in Bangalore, you will take 1 to 2 hours to reach Devanhalli fort. Those who live in Bangalore will already know that you will be going towards Kempegowda international airport if you are going towards Devanhalli. So there are lots of food options on the way.

. Hence you can decide to have breakfast at home or any where on the highway.

Please note that the fort is open to visitors every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.

There is no entry fee and ample parking is available in the front of the fort.

Day-1/Step-2 11.00 AM to 1.00 PM Explore Devanahalli Fort Area

You can spent around 2 hours exploring the area.
There is not much to see apart from :
1) The fort itself
2) Shri Neera Baagilu Anjaneya Swami Temple
3) Shri Venugopalaswamy Temple and Siddalingeshwara Temple
4) Tipu Sultans Birth Place

All the 4 spots above can be covered in 2 hours

Please note that during summers it become quite hot and hence walking around the fort may be a challenge and hence recommeded to visit them before noon or late after noon and you can adjust your plan accordingly.

There are other places around like Jain temples, Nandi Hills and Many other Temple in Chikkabalapura. Plese refer to some more itinerries around the same.

Day-1/Step-3 1.-0 PM to 5.00 PM Lunch and drive back to home

In this itinerary we cover only one location and hence you can return back and then have your lunch. There are many options on NH44. After which you can plan to visit other places or return back home !
