Devarayanadurga – one of Tumkuru’s gems – 1 day trip from Bangalore

Devarayanadurga betta is towards Tumkur. It is actually a hill station offering a good adventure and trekking options.

The hill station is surrounded by forest and there are two famous temples called as Yoganarshimha (at the top of the hill) and Bhoganarshimha temple (bottom of the hill).

So if you are on pilgrimage or want to do trekking, you can definitely think of Devarayanadurga hills.

It is also famous for a natural spring which is said to be very sacred. This spring is called as Namada Chilume.

Another famous temple in the area is the Mahalakshmi Temple at Goravanahalli. The place itself is very serene and scenic and not very crowded and hence can be a very good visit if you have got a day or half in hand.

People generally start very early morning and reach the temple during early hours of the day and are back by afternoon.

What all to see here:
1) Devrayandurga view point
2) Shri YogaLakshmi Narashimha temple
3) Shri BhogaLakshmi Narashimha temple
4) Deer Park
5) Namadashulme ( Perinial Spring related to Ramayana times)

There are many more places near Devarayanadurga hills ( also called as Devarayanadurga betta ) which can be clubbed with this visit, for example Savan Durga, Shivagange etc.

Itinerary Details

Day / Step Time Slot Activity
Day-1/Step-1 8.00 AM to 11.00 AM Travel to Devrayandurga and Breakfast on the way

Since we are going to cover only Devrayandurga in this trip. You can start a bit late as well. But please do start your trip by 8.00 AM. There are lot of good food options on the way and hence spend some 30 mins on breakfast and including all you will needaround 3 hours to reach there.

So by 11.00 AM you will reach Devrayandurga.
You will be travelling towards Neelamangala and then you will reach Dobbaspete.
Do not cross the flyover. Take the service road before the flyover.
when you take right turn at the junction, you will find 2 routes. one at 45 degress (SH 3) and one at 90 degrees ( NH 648 ) .

But take the one which is at 45 degrees (SH3). So just follow the maps.
Around 20 to 25 mins on this road you will see Janapriya family resturant. Just after that you will see the arch for Devrayandurga. Follow that road and you will reach the foot hills of Devrayandurga.

Day-1/Step-2 11 AM to 12.30 PM Explore Devarayan durga hills view point and Visit Shri Yoga Narashimha Temple

So there are 2 temple one at the base of hill and one at top. Our recommendation is to visit the one at top first and then come down, visit the temple at foot hills and other spots.

So there are two things to visit first
1)View point 2) Shri Yoga Lakshmi Narashimha temple

When you start climbing the hills you need to take ticket at the start. It is around 20 rs. Then keep driving. Once you start seeing the temple, slow down. You will see few cars parked on the main road. If you take the bifurcation you will reach temple parking.

But drive straight. You will reach a dead end and you will also see a govt building. Just before that you will find some place to park the car. This is the view point. You get to see some amazing views and it is nice location for some cool photography.

Then come back and drive to temple parking.
From parking you need to climb some 150 steps and you will reach the temple. It is a very old, and important temple of region. To know more about the temle click here.

So visit the temple and spend some time there. By 12.15 start climbing down. You will reach parking in 15 mins.

Day-1/Step-3 12.30 PM to 12.45 PM Drive down to Shri Bhoganarashima temple

Now you can start driving back to the foot hiils. So drive straight to Shri Bhoga Lakshmi Narashimha temple. There is ample parking available.

Day-1/Step-4 12.45 PM to 1.30 PM Visit Shri Bhoga Lakshmi Narashimha temple
It is a very old temple and again very important temple of the regiona and is must visit.
Day-1/Step-5 1.30 PM to 2.00 PM Lunch
Though there are not a lot of options, but you will still get some nice food at few resturants around Shri Bhoga Lakshmi Narashihma temple.

So spend some 30 mins there and grab some quick bite and then you can move on to Deer park and Namada Chulume

Day-1/Step-6 2.00 PM to 2.30 PM Drive to Deer Park and Namada Chulume

so now you can drive to Deer Park and Namada Chulume. You can actually reach there in 15 to 20 mins. But drive slow and enjoy the scenery around. You are going to like it. There is a herbal park on the way in case you want to visit. Else drive straight to Deer Park.

Day-1/Step-7 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM Explore Deer Park and Namada Chulume

Both the locations are in same premises. Deer Park comes first. You will get to see Deers from very near. You can actually feed them. Kids will love it a lot. These are special Spotted Deers. You can spend some good 30 to 40 mins and then you can walk down to Namada Chulume.

Then you can walk down to Namada Chulume. Its a 5 mins walk from the Deer Park. This is a very sacred perinial spring and its relalted to Lord Rama.

It is said that Lord Rama visited this place during Vanvasa (exile).

Lord Rama searched for water to apply tilaka to his forehead. When he could not find any water, he shot an arrow at the rock. The arrow penetrated the rock, made a hole, and the water came out.

Henceforth, this place was called Namada Chilume, meaning "Spring of Tilak". (naama = tilak and chilume' = spring, in Kannada).

So this natural spring is of great religious importance.

Day-1/Step-8 5.30 PM to 8.30 PM Drive back home

So you will able to complete visiting Deer park and Namada Chulume by 5.30PM and then you can start drive back home.

It is advisable to start back by 5.30 PM before it starts getting dark.

You can have some nice dinner before you enter the city ! Have a great weekend !
