There are 2 important temples in Kolar.These 2 temples are Kolaramma temple and Someshwara temple.
Both of these temples are very old and are built in south indian temple architecture. Because of their historical importance, these temples are also ASI protected.

Start from Bangalore by 7.00AM. You will not take more than 2 hours to reach Shri Kolaramma temple. You will be travelling in National Highway and there are a lot of good options on the way to have breakfast. So spend some one hour for breakfast and then reach temple by 10.00 AM. Please note that the temple will close by noon and hence it is advisable to reach the temple by 10.00 AM so that you can spend some good time there. |

This temple was built during Chola rule. Kolaramma is the presiding deity of Kolar. Goddess Durga is worshipped as goddess Kolaramma here. The carvings of the granite stones of this temple is worth noticing. Also, there is an underground hundi. And a small hole from where you can put a coin. It is a tradition to do that. Though the temple premises itself is quite small. But the temple is of great importance locally. The idol of goddess Kolaramma is in a small room and devotees have to look at the idol through a mirror which is placed opposite to the temple. |

After you have visited, you can actually walk down to Shri Someshwara temple You can drive down as well, but parking is a bit limited at Shri Someshwara temple while there is ample parking at Shri Kolaramma temple. So park you car / bike at shri Kolaramma tempe only and just walk down to Shri Someshwara temple. It is hardly 500 meters if you walk down ! |

Shri Someshwara temple is also an excellent example of dravidian architecture.
The temple has a big gopuram which looks very majestic. The stone carvings on the gopuram is just fantastic. As with many temple premises in south India, after entering the temple we see a “Dhwaja Stambh” in the front of temple. The main temple premises has Kalyan Mantappa and Vasantha Mantappa, apart from Mukha Mandap. There are a lot of carvings on the pillar of temples. Various mythological characters are depicted along with animals like horses. |

Once you have completed visiting Shri Someshwara temple, you can head back to Bangalore. On the way there are many good resturants on the NH and have a nice lunch and head back home! It will be a nice half a day to one day trip ! |
