Coorg – A beautiful hill station near Bangalore – Day 3

Hey guys.. so today I will share about my experience of my 3rd day trip to coorg and back to Bangalore. So welcome to my post “Coorg – A beautiful hill station near Bangalore – Day 3”

Coorg – A Beautiful Hill Station Near Bangalore – Day 1

Coorg – A Beautiful Hill Station Near Bangalore – Day 2

As usual we were quite tired and hence slept well last night and hence the day started as usual by 8.00 AM. Break fast was ready by 8.30 AM and we had some nice idly with coconut chutney and sambhar. All tasted so good. It’s difficult to find such great taste in big cities. Anyway by 9.15 we checked out and were on road. The aim was to visit Shri Omkareshwara temple and Madikeri fort before heading out of town and on the way back to Bangalore, just before Kushal Nagar, there is Nisaegadhama which we wanted to visit before finally heading back home.

Stop 1: Shri Omkareshwara temple : This important temple of Madikeri is dedicated to Lord Shiva. What is unique about this temple and that attracts almost every one is its architecture. It is a unique blend of Gothic and Islamic architecture. The temple was built in 1820 by King Lingarajendra II.

Since we went a bit early in morning, it was no rush there and we finished the temple darshan by 9.45 AM.

Stop 2: Madikeri Fort: This is another important tourist destination in Madikeri. It is at walking distance from the Shri Omkareshwara temple. In Fact we parked our car in front of fort , but first went on to pay darshan to Lord Shiva. We walked back. The fort opens at 9.00 AM, It takes a total of 45 mins to 1 hour to visit this area. There is a small museum inside the fort which is must visit.

The fort is also called as Mercara fort and was built by Mudduraja in second half of 17th century, but was rebuilt by Tipu Sultan.

The museum has many historical items specially from british era and also few items and portrait of Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa ( I am a big fan of Field Marshal Cariappa). This place is worth visit.

By 10.30 or so , we were able to visit this place and were out. And now it was time to head back home via Kushal Nagar.

Stop 3 : Nisargadhama: Madikeri to Nisarghadhama is 40Kms and we expected to reach there by 12.00 PM. It is a delta or you can say a small Island formed by river Cauvery. It is supposed to be a good picnic spot and a plastic free zone. This area can be a really wonderful tourist spot for family and kids. The deer park can be made more better. Maintenance could be more better. Overall a good place to stop by!

So this was our day 3. We left Kushalnagar by 2.30 and headed towards mysore. Had our lunch on the way. It is 220 Kms approx from Kushalnagar to Bangalore. Google showed 4hrs and 30 mins. But it took approx 6 hours and 15 mins for us for the drive. We spent 1 hr on lunch so if we include that total 7 hrs + it took for us. We reached home by 10 PM. Packed something on the way for dinner.

So over all it was a very fulfilling trip. This trip was due for a long time.

Coorg/Madikeri did impress us a lot. Wish we have couple of more days in hand. There are still a lot to cover there and we will definitely go there again.

Friends, hope you liked our posts and our experience would help you in planning your itinerary to coorg!

Have a wonderful time!
