As I have mentioned in my previous post, 40 kms from Bangalore (Yelahanka), offers some good options for a weekend trip.

Let us look at soome Trekking Options Near Doddaballapura.

In my previous post I talked about Ghati Subramanya, Makali Durga and Nagadevata temple at Gauribidnoor.

In today’s post I will concentrate on the trekking options Doddabalapur has to offer.

There are 2 good trekking options near Doddabalapura.

  • Hulukudi Betta and
  • Makalidurga Betta.

Suggested itenary – Trekking options near Doddabalapura Bangalore

  1. Start early from Bangalore – around 6.00 AM and reach Hulukudi Betta by 8.00 (Bangalore -> Yelahanka NES -> Doddabalapur -> Hulukudi Betta). If you start early it is better. It will take approx 2 hours to climb. Spend another 30 mins to an hour at the top and return back at base.
  2. Total time for climbing up the hill and coming back will be approx 4 hours. So by 12.00 PM you will be back at base.
  3. Return back to doddablapura. Have some nice lunch there and head towards Makalidurga betta
  4. Head towards Makalidurga – approx 15 kms from Doddabalapura.
  5. Once you reach Makalidurga which is the base, you need to climb to the granite hillock to reach the fort.
  6. It will take around 2 hours to climb up and hence keep atleast 4 to 5 hours in hand.
  7. If you start climbing by 2.00 PM, you can be easily back by 5.00 PM
  8. Over all, you can cover both in a day, Try starting early.

On top of Hulukudi betta there is Verabhadraswamy temple and on top of Makalidurga betta there is makali malleshwara temple.

Both the temples are quite old and beautiful.

Both these treks are moderately difficult.

Carry lots of water and snacks with you.

On the base of Hulukudi hills you will find shops selling water and snacks. While at Makalidurga you will be surprised that there is nothing around.

Makalidurga is also getting popular with people going for night trekking.

Winter times are best for trekking. October to March are best months for this trip.

  1. Hulukudi beta is more crowded..veer abhadra swamy temple at top of hill is quite old..during climb there are few places which can be challenging
